The Friday night lights of Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg switched on for the second time this year, as the Tigers faced the Panthers in SA footy's Rumble in the Jungle! The Panthers brought heartbreak to the Bay late last year when they took the Tigers out of the 2011 finals after dealing out a 31-point loss in the first-week eliminator and making it a hat-trick of victories.
The Tigers were on the back foot in the opening term, after squandering several scoring opportunities the Panthers would take a three-point lead after kicking 3.2 to 2.5 in the first quarter. The inaccuracy bug continued to plague the Tigers, who should have been leading at the long break. Instead, their 4.4 to South's 4.1 second quarter saw scores tied up at 45 points a piece at half-time. When play resumed for the second half, the Panthers hit the ground running. It took only a minute into the third term for the visitors to hit the front, a poor disposal allowing an easy major. That was one goal out of the 6.3 that the Panthers bagged in the third term, the Tigers managed 3.3 to see South lead by three goals at three quarter-time. The Panthers finished the job in the final quarter, kicking 4.1 to 2.4 to take out a 27-point win, their third win at the Bay in the last 11 encounters.
Nick Liddle was voted best afield for South, while Glenelg named Josh Trembath as their best.
