The Saturday arvo action starts at Alberton Oval where the Magpies faced the Tigers. Up until Round 17 in 2010, the Tigers had a bit of a streak going against the Magpies. That run ended in early 2011 when the 'Pies edged out the Bays by two points at Alberton, the two teams then exchanged wins and losses for the next three games including the Round 9 encounter where the Tigers took a three-goal win at Glenelg. The Tigers were sitting fifth and Port were in sixth, closing the gap was the objective for the black & whites.
Port began the afternoon's proceedings strongly, taking a 32-point lead at quarter-time after kicking 6.4 to a lowly 1.2. But the Tigers fought their way back to a four-point half-time deficit after restricting the Magpies to just 1.1 whilst kicking an inaccurate 5.5 for themselves. With the slightest scent of a finals berth in the air however, the Magpies weren't letting this one go, not after taking Centrals to task a few weeks back. When play resumed, the Magpies kicked 5.4 to Glenelg's 2.4, taking a three quarter-time lead of 22 points. The Tigers' second term effort was quickly forgotten as the Magpies nailed the point home in the final term, a 4.2 to three goal scoreline putting Port within striking distance of fifth spot with their five-goal win. This would be the Tigers' fourth loss on the trot and with Port now just one step closer puts their spot in serious jeopardy.
Jeremy Clayton was voted best for Port, while the Tigers named Jarryd Lyons as their best on ground.
