Match Report

The action starts with some Friday Night Lights and we're heading up Port Road and into the Alberton Oval where the Magpies would host the Tigers. These two sides traded victories against each other on their respective home decks last year, the Bays inflicting an 11-goal hiding at Glenelg, but then were given a shock at Alberton where the Magpies won by 14 points. It was around the time the Tigers were having some late season yips before recovering their mojo to take out the flag. The Magpies on the other hand, would take their first wooden spoon since the end of the 19th century. The Magpies would get the first goal of the new season, but it was the Tigers with the lead at the first change. A bit of a slow start by their standards, scoring 3.3 to two goals had them ahead by nine points at quarter-time. The inaccuracy continued in the second quarter for the premiers but now also for the 'Pies, the two-kick gap would stay as such going into the long break with the Tigers kicking 2.4 to 2.3 to add a point to the previous margin come half-time. After the break though, Glenelg were the dominators as the Magpies' attack was silenced for the second half. Port didn't find the big sticks again for the rest of the night, in the third term they were held to two behinds while the visitors scored 6.3 to lead by 47 points by the final change. Five behinds in the last term capped off a horrid night for the home side, Glenelg finishing off with 3.4 to win by 64 points. Luke Partington hasn't lost a step after being away from footy for a year, taking best afield honours for the Tigers with 26 disposals, nine marks and four clearances. The Magpies named Jack Watkins as their best, with 26 disposals and eight marks.
