Match Report

Next up we head down Port Road to Woodville, the Eagles playing host to the Tigers at Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval in the ABC Match of the Round. From the previous dozen encounters between these two sides, the Tigers have taken seven to the Eagles' two, the last match saw the Eagles have one of their worst scoring displays in recent memory. They kicked 8.21 in a horrid afternoon that saw them go down by 47 points at Gliderol Stadium in Round 11 last season, along with a 32-point loss earlier in the year at Oval Avenue.

But those lousy memories were about to be torched, the Eagles putting on a clinic in goal as they rammed through nine goals without a miss to a comparably paltry 1.3 to lead by 39 points at the first change. The brakes seemed to had been applied in the second quarter though, the goals slowing from a torrent to a trickle as the Eagles added just 2.2 to the Tigers' 1.3. Some would have been thinking that maybe the Eagles were toying with their prey, the home side ahead by 50 points at the long break. They were probably right, when play resumed the Eagles got straight back onto punishing the Tigers further, they added 7.4 to 3.5 in the third quarter to stretch the gap out to 73 points as whatever Glenelg faithful turned out probably started to file out in disgust. The Eagles would finish the game exactly the way they started it, with an avalanche of goals. A further 9.1 to 4.4 in the final quarter would see the Eagles home by 88 points.

Matthew Goldsworthy was voted best afield for the Eagles, the Tigers named Lachlan Earl as their standout in an afternoon of very few highlights.
