On a Sunday afternoon we go over to the inner southern suburbs to Unley's Envestra Park where the Double Blues faced the Tigers. The Bays have enjoyed a seven-match winning streak against the Blues, only dropping two games from the last 11. Those two games were a Preliminary Final in 2009 and the following match in early 2010. However, this is only the second time the Tigers' have ventured to Unley in recent times. Before the Round 21 game last year, they were able to dodge Oxford Terrace for all of season 2011. The last encounter between these clubs ended with the Bays taking a 28-point win in Round 5. There was even more excuse to end the drought, with Sturt champion Rick Davies turning up over a week after his AFL Hall of Fame induction.
The Blues' opening term was riddled with inaccuracy at goal, but their intentions were on show early as they took a 15-point lead at quarter-time after kicking 3.5 to 1.2. The Tigers almost levelled things in the second term, but would still be behind by a single kick after scoring 5.1, Sturt's wayward 3.4 just keeping them ahead at the long break. The Double Blues looked like they would break the game open with their third quarter efforts, adding 5.4 to Glenelg's lowly two behinds to go into the final term with a 38-point lead. The Tigers made a decent run at the Blues in the final term, but would still fall short in the end as the Blues kept them at arms length to kick 4.4 to 7.1 and leave with a 23-point win.
Angus Kurtze was given best afield honours for Sturt, while Glenelg named Andrew Bradley as their standout.
