In the inner eastern suburbs, we find ourselves at Coopers Stadium in Norwood with the ABC crew as the Redlegs faced the Bulldogs. The Redlegs have had the Bulldogs number as of late, despite the last 12 results being spread equally between the two clubs, the last four matches have been all red & blue. Since Round 2 in 2012, the 'Legs have taken victory at home and at the Ponderosa, taking some measure of revenge for their 2nd Semi defeat in the 2011 finals.
The Dogs started relatively strong, taking the first two goals of the match. But then the Redlegs would click into gear, kicking 3.2 to Centrals' three goals to be ahead by two points at quarter-time. The Bulldogs would start falling behind in the second term, the Redlegs kicking away to a 32-point lead by the long break after adding 5.3 to a horrid three behinds. The Dogs responded when play resumed, but not in the way they or their travelling faithful would have liked, spraying several shots wide for 3.6 to the Redlegs' 3.1. The gap was reduced to 27 points by three quarter-time, Norwood still holding sway. The Dogs' physical approach couldn't be completely faulted this day, but their finish was terrible in comparison with the more polished Redlegs outfit. The home side finished the day off with a 5.6 to 1.4 final quarter, taking a 53-point win to stitch up top spot on the ladder and also sealing the minor premiership.
Tim Webber was named best afield for the Redlegs, while Centrals named James Boyd as their best on ground.
