At Alberton Oval, the Magpies were paid a visit by the Tigers, who were eyeing fifth spot on the ladder.
The Magpies started best, off to a 13 point lead at quarter time. Not having a dominant forward to kick to in their attacking 50 didn't help the Tigers, even though managing 4.2 on the scoreboard the Magpies bagged 4.3 to extend their lead by a single point. The Tigers still couldn't bridge the gap, after Paul Sherwood was carted off injured, Clive Waterhouse was off like a rocket. The home side booted 5.7, the inaccuracy saving the Tigers -- who added four goals without a miss -- some real embarrasment. The Magpies didn't let the visitors get anywhere near them, they ran out winners in the end by 37 points.
