Over at Woodville Oval, it was a fight for top spot as the Eagles faced the Bulldogs. The reigning premier had been humbled earlier in the year in the Grand Final re-match, with the return bout at the pound saw the Dogs get over the line.
The Eagles managed to outplay and outscore the visitors for the first quarter, out to a 10 point lead at the siren. But the Dogs didn't lay down for long, they overtook the Eagles by the slightest of margins going into the half time break. A spirited third quarter followed, both sides getting their share of shots on goal with Centrals holding onto a nine point lead. The final quarter belonged to the Doggies, the Eagles 3.2 wasn't enough to snare the victory. Centrals added 5.4 in that term to run out 17 point winners, taking top spot for their efforts as well.
