In the final match of Round 6, Thebarton Oval's gates were thrown open for football once again as the Eagles and the Magpies clashed in the Battle of the Birds.
The Eagles started off well, the first quarter saw the home side up by 14 points, 4.4 to the Magpies' 2.2. That lead was rolled back to just eight points in the second quarter as the Magpies started to push forward more often. They kicked 5.3 to the Eagles' 4.3. After the long break, the Eagles fought hard to re-establish a commanding position, but found only single points for most of the third term. They kicked 4.6 to Port's 3.1, the Eagles up by 13 points at three-quarter time. But in the final term, the Magpies forwards fired up and blasted off to a 14 point win thanks to a 7.5 to 3.2 final term.
Jeremy Clayton again was named best for the Magpies, while Luke Jarrad's efforts got him the same honours with the Eagles.
