As the only Saturday afternoon game the ABC cameras headed for Alberton Oval for the Magpies and Eagles "Battle of the Birds" clash.
The Eagles started off best, but some inaccurate kicking kept the margin from really stretching out. They booted 7.5 to the Magpies' 4.2 to be up by 21 points at quarter-time. But the home side kicked back soon afterwards, the second term saw the 'Pies go up by a point after adding 6.5 to the Eagles' 3.1. Some choice words must have been exchanged in the Eagles' rooms by Ron Fuller at the long break, within the first 10 minutes, they kicked four goals. That took them to a lead of 27 points, in a third quarter where Port only managed a poor three behinds. The Magpie spirit broken, the Eagles added a further 4.4 to 2.1 to win by 42 points.
Gavin Colville was named best for the Eagles for his efforts in silencing 2005 Magarey Medallist Jeremy Clayton, while Shayne Biacsi was named best for Port.
