In the last match of the weekend, the lights were switched on at Hamra Homes Oval for the northern derby between the Bulldogs and the Roosters.
A bumper crowd turned out for this one, over 6,000 people lined the ground as the Roosters took advantage of the Bulldogs first half clumsiness to lead by four points at quarter time, 4.1 to 3.3. The problems continued for the Dogs in the second term, as North stretched out the lead to 10 points to end the first half. But that's where the Roosters influence on the game ended. Centrals came out a different side in the second half, nailing in 7.3 to North's 2.4 in the third quarter to take a lead of 19 points going into the final quarter. North's forwards were pretty much silenced, as Central's young gun Justin Westhoff and Tasmanian recruit Ian Callinan ran rings around the Rooster defence. In the last term, the Dogs added a further 5.1 to 1.2 to take out a seven goal victory.
The Gowans boys showed they are still the best, with brother James taking top spot for the night, while Darryl Wintle never stopped trying despite limited support.
