The ABC cameras headed down to Alberton Oval for the clash between the Magpies and the Roosters. The loss of Port's 'mother' was fresh in everybody's minds... but I think someone forgot to tell the players.
Despite the Roosters shooting for goal being a bit below par, they were up by 29 points at quarter time after booting 6.8 to Port's 2.3. North's poor kicking for goal continued in the second term, but Port did almost nothing to stop the frequent goals and behinds. A further 4.5 to the Magpies' 2.4 saw the visitors up by seven straight kicks going into the long break. The avalanche of North scores would continue when play resumed, they added 6.9 to Port's one solitary goal in the third term to extend the gap to 81 points. The Roosters didn't need to do anymore damage, it was already done before the final quarter began. The only embarrassment on North's part would be the final tally of behinds -- 28. North won by 74 points, Port fans left stunned and disgusted at what coach Tim Ginever commented later "a lack of respect shown for the mother of this club."
Clint Alleway was voted best for North, while Port named Levi Greenwood as their best.
