At Unley, the first match at Unley under its new identity of House Brothers Oval saw the Double Blues face the Bulldogs in front of just over 4,000 people.
The first half was pretty closely fought, but it was the Blues that controlled most of the play and at quarter time they were in front by seven points. They followed that up by extending their lead to 14 points by the long break, after kicking 3.2 to Centrals' 2.1 in the second quarter. When play restarted in the third quarter, inaccuracy on goal allowed the Dogs to stay in touch, but the margin did get out to three goals by three-quarter time. Half way into the final term the Dogs looked as if they were about to take the game by the skin of their teeth, but the home side rallied hard and in unbelievable fashion, kicked 8.5 to 4.3 to win by 44 points. Another unbelievable stat was the 54 free kicks, spread evenly between the teams.
Adam Thomson was the standout for the Blues, while Richard Cochrane was the best afield for the Bulldogs.
