Down south at the Hickinbotham Oval, the ABC cameras and a fair few cars headed inside for what was supposed to be the top-of-the-table match between the Panthers and the Double Blues. Both teams were undefeated, but the Blues have been doing it more ruthlessly as of late.
That ruthless intent showed right from the start, the Blues booting 4.5 to South's lousy two behinds to set the margin at 27 points at quarter-time. Although quite inaccurate in the second quarter, the Panthers struggled to find the big sticks. They managed just one goal to Sturt's 5.6 and at the long break the deficit was 57 points. The Blues were near faultless, putting the Panthers under siege at each point of the ground. When play resumed, they bagged another 4.2 while keeping the Panthers to just 1.2 to extend the gap to 75 points. The visitors just toyed with the home team in the final term, it was the only quarter where South managed more than one goal. The final margin by 85 points, Sturt sending a clear and thundering message to the rest of the competition.
They named Jade Sheedy as their best, while South voted in Jason Torney.
