At Challenge Recruitment Oval, almost 5,000 people turned up as the Tigers played host to the Bulldogs in what would turn out to be the real match of the round later in the day. The Bays had three on the trot to their name, the Dogs needed to bag another scalp to be really seen as a top four threat.
Only one goal happened in the first quarter, one of three scores to the Doggies to the Tigers' five behinds. But then the goals came more frequently in the second term and it was the home side with the claws out as they established an 18-point lead at half time. Roles were reversed when the game resumed for the third quarter, the reigning premiers kicking 7.4 to the Tigers' 4.1 to take a three point lead going into the final stanza. However it wasn't to be for the Dogs, that same lead turned into a three point loss in the end as Glenelg scraped home after an inaccurate last quarter, 3.7 to Central's 3.2.
Glenelg named Ben Fisher as their standout while the Dogs voted in Scott Dutschke as their best afield.
