At the Hamra Homes Oval, the Bulldogs played host to the now Jack Cahill-less Panthers. Something seemed to have changed a little bit now down at South... with former captain Clay Sampson as the new mentor to the Panther crew, either that or Centrals have become a little complacent.
It couldn't be more evident as they were down by a mere goal at quarter time, the Bulldogs kicking 5.2 to the Panthers' 4.2. The Bulldogs managed to extend that gap to 16 points by the long break after adding 4.1 to 2.3, but the Panthers still made the home side look more than a little average. Centrals showed some of their trademark form in the third quarter when they kicked 7.4 to the Panthers' 4.2, extending the margin to 36 points by the final change. The final margin would be smaller than that though, the Panthers outscoring the Dogs 3.3 to 2.4. Centrals coach Roy Laird was not nearly convinced with his team, despite the 31 point win. No doubt his backmen will cop it, probably with their league spot if they don't shape up.
Centrals named skipper Paul Thomas as their best afield, while South nominated Peter Rolfe as their best in his second league appearance.
