In the final match of Round 4, Alberton Oval was the scene for the Port Road derby, the "Battle of the Birds" match between the Magpies and the Eagles. The 2008 encounters were all Port Adelaide, the Eagles last victory at Alberton was in 2007 where they nicked a two point win. A so-far winless season was kicking up discontent in the outer and the Magpies needed to act.
The Magpies did put up a fight in the first quarter, leading by three points after scoring 4.0 to 3.3. But the Eagles went on a roll in the second quarter, kicking 6.1 to the Magpies' horrid 1.6 to set up a half-time lead of 22 points. After the long break, Port brought the margin back to 19 points after they kicked 2.3 while the Eagles' came up with a poor 1.6. But the hope would be short-lived as the visitors went on to bag 5.3 to 3.2 in the final term to send Port crashing to a fourth loss. The Eagles went home with a 32 point victory.
Paul Stewart would be named best afield for the Eagles, while usual suspect Jeremy Clayton was voted best for Port.
