On an AFL-free Sunday, over 4,000 fronted up at Gliderol Stadium as the Tigers hosted the Bloods. Aside from a four point loss to West in 2007 on the same pitch, the last four have gone to the Bays which included a 22-goal hammering in the same year.
As expected, the Tigers would take the early momentum, but were inaccurate on goal and allowed the visitors to be closer than they should have. They kicked 4.5 to West's 2.1 to lead by 16 points at quarter-time. The Bloods, to many a Tiger fans' amazement, would produce a stunning second term to kick 7.5 and restrict the home side to 1.3 to lead by 22 points at half-time. But they couldn't keep up the pressure and would allow the Tigers to fight their way back in range of the lead in the third term, where they kicked 4.4 to 1.2. At the last change the Bloods held a two point lead. Both sides scratched and clawed like their club moniker namesakes would in the wild, but in the end it was the Tigers that would land the killing swipe. It was left to Ruory Kirkby at the 24th minute mark to score the goal that allowed the Tigers to take a four-point win, leaving the West Adelaide faithful wondering what might have been.
Ty Allen was named best for Glenelg, while the Bloods voted in Fortunato Caruso as their best on ground.
