Gliderol Stadium played host to the contest between the Tigers and the Magpies. Port has dropped the seven of the last eight games to the Tigers, with a draw interrupting the streak in 2007. The 'Pies last won an encounter with Glenelg in 2006 and this match, like the Sturt vs. South match, looked like yet another mis-match in the making and again nothing could have been further from the truth.
The Pies started well, getting out to a 21 point lead after kicking 5.3 to Glenelg's average 1.6 in the first quarter. But the top-placed Tigers didn't stay quiet for long, although still inaccurate they managed 4.5 to Port's poor 0.3 to take a six point lead for the half-time break. More horrible shooting on goal plagued the rest of the match, the Tigers having a frustrating time finding the big sticks as they went ahead to a two goal lead going into the final change after kicking 1.4 to a paltry 0.1 for the visitors. The behind count on the Tigers' tally was the only thing that saved them from an embarrassing loss in the end, their 2.5 to Port's 4.2 allowing them to win by a goal denying the Magpies an opportunity to celebrate Corey Ah Chee's 200th match in style. Alarm bells would no doubt be ringing ahead of the Tigers' clash with the Bulldogs next week after that display in goal.
Byron Murphy was voted best for the Tigers, while Mark Dolling was named best for Port.
