On Sunday would see two more matches for the football-mad, the Eagles facing the Bloods at Woodville Oval. The last time the two Western teams met, the Eagles triumphed at Woodville by six goals. The Bloods have only won three of the last eight matches and the Eagles dropped one last week so there would be no better opportunity for a top-five entry for Westies.
But they were doing things the hard way in the first quarter, the Bloods up by just three points -- 4.1 to 3.4 -- after some rather clumsy football allowed the Eagles to stay in touch. The Eagles took over in the second term, after several lead changes the home side would be up by four points after kicking 4.2 to the Bloods' 3.1. The game would continue to hang in the balance going into the second half, the third quarter seeing both sides struggle to gain a serious lead on the scoreboard. The Eagles would extend the gap to seven points by the last change, they added 2.3 to 2.0 in the third term. In the end it was the "work-in-progress" Eagles side that emerged victorious, after a 5.3 to 3.4 last quarter the final margin would be 18 points.
The Eagles named Adam Grocke as their best on ground, while West gave Shannon Green their best on ground honours.
