We head to City Mazda Stadium in Richmond where the Bloods would face the Eagles. In the last contest between these two sides, the Eagles held off the Bloods at Woodville to win by three goals. Unfortunately this week saw unwanted lightning strike a fourth time at West Adelaide, the death of young gun Corey Siemers in the minds of the Bloods faithful... and the players.
With that the Bloods started the afternoon's proceedings with a 4.2 to 1.3 first quarter, a 17-point margin at quarter-time. The deficit would remain un-changed at the half-time break, each side kicking 1.2 in the second quarter. The Bloods commitment to almost every facet of the game was desperate at best and it seemed to work against the Eagles early on. The Eagles would put a scare into the Bloods camp early in the third quarter when they kicked the opening two goals, but Westies response would nullify that effort and after a 3.0 to 3.2 third quarter the gap would only be reduced by two points to 15. The Eagles kept on coming in the final term, but the Bloods' desperate game would not allow the visitors much room for error. West managed 2.1 to the Eagles three goals in the last quarter, the home side taking a 10 point victory.
Jonathon Beech was named best for the Bloods, while the Eagles named Brad Geddes.
A post match tribute ensued for Siemers with his jumper given to his father. We here in the BigFooty SANFL community would like to give our condolences to the family, the Barmera-Monash Football Club and West Adelaide. May he Rest In Peace.
