We're off to the northern suburbs of Elizabeth to the Hamra Homes Oval where the Bulldogs faced the Tigers in the ABC television match. What is it about the Doggies that the Bays haven't been able to get past? For the last five games, which include the 2008 decider, the closest that the Bays have got is a draw in Round 17 last year. The Dogs escaped Glenelg with a 10-point win in Round 4 this season, but the Bays have been on a nice run as of late.
The Dogs' first term was everything the home faithful were hoping for, scoring 6.2 to Glenelg's 3.3. But they switched off in the second quarter, allowing the Tigers to bag 5.2 whilst the Dogs managed a lousy two behinds. Worse still, a 119 to 60 possession count in one quarter is not one that Dogs fans like to read about. At the long break, the visitors held a 13-point lead. The Dogs however, returned to the field with the switch back in the correct position and reeled the gap back to a single point, after they kicked 4.1 to the Tigers' 2.1 in the third quarter. The final term would see the reigning premiers play out the best quarter of football they've played since Round 7, when they kicked 7.2 to the Tigers' one goal. The Dogs ended the day with a 37-point win.
Pocket-rocket James Boyd picked up his first best on ground honour for the Dogs, while Ty Allen was named best for Glenelg.
