Match Report

We head on up The Parade to Coopers Stadium for the match between the Redlegs and the Bloods. The last time these sides met, it was early in the season when the 'Legs hadn't found their power yet and the Bloods took a 19-point win at Richmond, their third on the trot against Norwood. The Redlegs have had some close calls over the past few weeks, this was going to be no exception as both sides struggled for goals early on.

The home side bagged the only major in the first term, all up it was 1.3 to West's single behind to make it an eight-point gap at quarter-time. The Bloods would square it up in the second quarter though, kicking 2.2 to the 'Legs single goal. At half-time it was 15 points each. This was an all-out arm-wrestling match, the defences of both teams working hard and it showed on the scoreboard with so little scoring. When play resumed the Redlegs managed to re-take the lead when they managed 2.2 to Westies' 1.2, a six-point gap at the final change. But things didn't go right for West in the final term, it took two costly errors by the Bloods defence to allow the extra scores that sealed a Redlegs win. Norwood's 4.1 to West's 3.1 handed the home side a two-goal victory. A pretty match, maybe not, but it was the contest that would have made this one the game of the week.

Brett Zorzi was named best for the Redlegs while West named Chris Schmidt as their best.
