Match Report

We head on down to Alberton Oval where the Magpies prepared for a Tiger assault. The last encounter between these clubs almost slipped away from the Tigers in the Round 10 match at the Bay, the Magpies almost pulling one out of the hat but fell short by nine points.

The Tigers quickly asserted themselves, taking advantage of Port's poor shooting to take a 16-point lead at quarter-time after scoring 4.3 to 1.5. The Magpies fought their way back into the contest in the second quarter though, slotting through 6.1 to the Tigers' inaccurate 2.4. At the half-time break, the home side were up by five points. A side of the Magpies reared its head during that period, a willingness to play risky football being the main trait on display. Port maintained the gap at three quarter-time, a single goal separating the two sides after they kicked 2.4 to Glenelg's 2.3. But the Magpies must have used up all their fuel during the first half, they had nothing left to repel the Tiger onslaught that ensued in the final quarter. Glenelg rammed home 7.5 to Port's solitary goal to take a 35-point win, mainly thanks to Todd Grima's efforts in that final term. He kicked four of his six goals in the final stanza.

Kane Tenace was named best for Glenelg while young gun Tim Milera was named best for Port.
