Part one of the split round sees us head out to City Mazda Stadium in Richmond when the Bloods faced the Bulldogs. The reigning premiers' last trip to Richmond saw them take a 23-point win in a game that was scrappy at best, the Dogs skills coming into question more than a few times.
At the first change of that match it was a 1.1-all scoreline, but this time the Dogs improved on that by an extra six goals as compared to an extra behind on West's tally. At quarter-time the Dogs were ahead by 35 points. The Bloods looked like they could have overran the Dogs in the second quarter after drawing the gap back to 17 points, but the response from the visitors would re-establish their hold on the game. All up the Bloods kicked 4.2 to Central's inaccurate 3.4, a 31-point deficit at the long break. When play resumed for the third quarter, the Dogs accuracy returned but goals were a little bit harder to come by for both sides. The Dogs managed 3.1 to the Bloods' two goals to make it a 38-point buffer at the final change. The Dogs finally sank the teeth into the home side, bagging 6.3 to 2.1 in the final term to take a 64-point win.
Jay Nash was a pain in the backside all day and was named best for the Dogs, while the Bloods voted in Nat Caruso as their best.
