At Prospect Oval, the first ABC televised match would be the contest between the Roosters and the Bloods. You have to go all the way back to Round 9 last year for the last encounter between these two, the Roosters taking a 29-point win over Westies.
The Bloods were a little bit Jekyll & Hyde early on in the piece... a sterling opening quarter saw them kick 5.3 to the Roosters' 1.3 to lead by four goals at quarter-time, but then allowed North to take a two-point lead at half-time as the home side belted through 7.3 to 3.1. From here it was a nail-biter... and was everything an SA footy-head would like to see, a contest. The Bloods steadied in the third quarter to kick 5.2 to the Roosters' 4.3 to re-take the lead, at the final change the gap was just three points. North would again make a run at the Bloods and even took the lead part-way through the final quarter, but a momentary lapse in the dying moments from the Roosters allowed West to bag two unanswered goals in the final two minutes. The Bloods altogether scored 4.3 to the Roosters' 3.3 to take a rare Prospect Oval win by nine points.
Chris Schmidt was named best afield for West, while North named Matt Wright as their best.
