We are at Sunday afternoon football down to the Alberton Oval for the match between the Magpies and the Bloods. The last encounter between these mobs would have been memorable had there been bigger scores, but in Round 21 at Richmond the two teams struggled to find too many goals. Westies won that match by a goal in a match that mustered just 13 scoring shots. The Bloods' faithful have been riding high as of late, a barnstorming start to 2011 lifting many spirits at Richmond.
The Bloods started off best, leading at quarter time by four points after scoring 3.2 to Port's 2.4. They would continue to hold sway in the second term, but despite the Magpies' inaccuracy the Bloods were not making much impact on the scoreboard either. At half time, West would be in front by just two points after kicking 2.3 to 2.5. When play resumed, both outfits came out different as the Bloods suddenly found themselves under attack. With inaccuracy seemingly not a factor anymore, the Magpies surged to a 15-point lead at three quarter-time after kicking 5.1 to West's 2.2. Whatever form the Bloods had before had deserted them as the 'Pies finished the job in the final term, kicking a further 4.2 to 2.2 to take out a morale-boosting 27-point win and leaving the Bloods coaching staff searching for answers as to what went wrong.
Port named Matt Lokan as their best on ground, while West named James Ezard as their best.
