The ABC cameras headed off to Oval Avenue to Unleash Solar Oval in Woodville as the Eagles faced fellow western suburbs outfit, the Bloods. The last encounter between these sides almost saw the Eagles steal one from the Bloods in enemy territory, but fell short in the final term by 10 points. From the last seven games including that one from mid-2010, West have taken just two and a draw was in there as well.
This one was to be a low-scoring game, and despite a strong wind favouring one end neither side would take full advantage as shown in the first term where the Eagles kicked 2.1 to 1.1 to lead by a goal at quarter-time. The second term would be more goal-plentiful, as the Eagles kicked 3.1 to West's 2.3 to set a 10-point gap at the half-time break. The inaccuracy bug would swing over to the home side in the third quarter, but even though the Eagles would score six behinds the Bloods only kicked the equivalent points in one action alone. The Eagles would still hold a 10-point lead going into the final change. This was set to be a thriller as the two teams exchanged blows on the scoreboard, but West's inaccuracy was just one factor in their eventual defeat, the other was a last gasp goal in the dying seconds. The Eagles overall 3.1 to West's 3.6 saw the home side take a five-point win.
Scott Lewis was the man behind the final strike, he was named best for the Eagles while Steven Morris was voted best on ground for the Bloods.
