Match Report

Sunday afternoon offered better weather for SA footy-heads, and over at Prospect Oval the Roosters faced the Double Blues. The last four games between these two teams at Menzies Crescent are split evenly, but the last encounter was at Unley in Round 5 where the Blues escaped with a two-goal win.

The Roosters started off best, kicking four goals without a miss to Sturt's 2.2 to lead by 10 points at quarter-time. But despite the inaccuracy bug invading the Double Blues' camp in the second quarter, they would kick 5.5 to North's lowly 1.2 to take a 17-point lead going into the long break. When play resumed, the Roosters would reduce that gap a bit in the third quarter when they kicking 3.1 to Sturt's 2.1, the deficit back to less than two straight kicks going into the final stanza. But the young brigade that Sturt brought in weren't going to let this one go, North's final term inaccuracy costing them a real shot at the points. The Blues kicked 2.3 to the Roosters' 2.4 to see the visitors away to a 10-point win to switch ladder positions with their hosts.

Luke Crane was named best on ground for Sturt, while James Bennett was voted best for North.
