Match Report

On Saturday afternoon at Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg, the Tigers hosted the Magpies. For all of the Magpies' misfortunes over the previous few seasons, they always seemed to get one over the Tigers. After a run of Port losses from early 2009 to late 2010, the Magpies would take six of the next eight games. This included the game in the final round of 2013, the bulk of the Magpies' active fan base disappear in the aftermath of the Power taking over the team after they took a 16 point victory which those fans saw as their last true hurrah. This season, the Power-laden Magpies handed the Tigers a football lesson to the tune of 152 points in Round 2.

But this time around, the Magpies seemed a little out of sorts as the Tigers managed to match their efforts and take a three-point lead into the first change, both sides not making the most of their chances with the board reading 1.5 to 1.2. The goals came easier for both teams in the second quarter though, but accuracy was still a problem as the gap was brought back to two points by the long break after Port added 4.5 to the Bays' 4.4. All year, consistency has been a problem for the Tigers. While at times they have gotten close to pulling off upsets during the year, they have lacked finish. Unfortunately for the Magpies, this wasn't going to be one of those times. Horrid inaccuracy continued to hinder the visitors who would be kept to 1.4 for the third term, the Tigers kicking ahead to a 13-point lead by the final change after kicking 3.3 for themselves. Glenelg would ensure they finished their wooden spoon season on a high, pulling off one of the most unlikeliest upsets for 2014 and ensuring a fitting send-off for captain Ty Allen as the home side added a further 5.2 to the Magpies' 2.1 to post a stunning 32-point victory.

Clint Alleway was named best for the Tigers, while the Magpies voted in captain Steve Summerton as their best on ground.
