The first match up in the SANFL this week took us to the Coopers Stadium in Norwood for some Friday Night Mayhem, the Redlegs hosting the Tigers under lights. In last year's two encounters they shared the spoils, with the 'Legs taking a 45-point win in Round 5 then the Tigers upsetting the 2014 premiers by nine points in Round 11 which was one of their better showings out of their four victories last season. Both teams were coming off a bye, with the Tigers taking a win against the Bloods whereas the Redlegs fell to the Roosters in an astonishing drop in form.
The opening term served up a goal-fest, a near shootout saw the Redlegs take a seven-point lead into the first change after scoring 5.2 to the Tigers' 4.1. The second term was not as spectacular in regards to scores, the Tigers fluffing the last score of the first half to level scores by half-time. Glenelg scored 2.4 to the 'Legs 1.3, the scores locked at 41 points each at the long break. Another low-scoring term ensued when play resumed for the second half, the Redlegs' inaccuracy allowing the Bays to take a three quarter-time lead of four points after they kicked 1.4 to the visitors' 2.2 to set the stage for what was to be a thrilling final quarter. The purists would not be disappointed, but one club would be in the end and unfortunately for the plucky Tigers outfit they would leave without the points. Despite the inaccurate streak continuing in the last quarter, the Redlegs' 3.5 to the Tigers' 2.1 would see them home by a goal.
Matthew Fuller was voted best on ground for the Redlegs, while the Tigers voted in captain Andrew Bradley as their best.
