Match Report

Heading bay-side, to the Gliderol Stadium in Glenelg, the Tigers hosted the Double Blues. These two sides shared the spoils from their matches last season, with the Blues taking the Round 2 match by 28 points, followed by the Tigers' Round 12 thriller which they won by five points. Both sides over consecutive weekends visited the Magpies and came out winners, but the Blues have been on a remarkable run with their last loss back in Round 1 while the Tigers were brought back to earth by North last week.

The Blues had the better of the scoring in the first quarter, leading by two goals at quarter-time after opening the afternoon by kicking 4.2 to 2.2. The Tigers' second term was horrid in front of goal, several opportunities going begging as they kicked 2.6 to Sturt's 3.2 as the gap was extended to 14 points by the half-time break. The Blues' defence was miserly and their pressure on the ball forced the Tigers into several errors, despite the Tigers having more of the ball and more scoring shots... harassment was the definitely the key to Sturt's day. It was no more evident than the third quarter, which was the game breaker for the Blues as they kicked 5.1 to the Tigers' lousy four behinds which put the deficit out to 35 points. Despite taking the foot off the pedal in the final quarter where they kicked 1.3, the inaccuracy continued to hold the Tigers down as they brought the final gap down to 27 points with their 3.5.

Zane Kirkwood is making a legit push towards another Magarey Medal with his best on ground honours for Sturt, while the Tigers named Jake Johansen as their best.
