Match Report

Up Port Road as far as Woodville, the Eagles hosted the Tigers at the Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval. Last time these two sides met, it was Round 7 under the lights of Gliderol Stadium where the Eagles saved pretty much everything until the final term to win by 15 points against an inaccurate Tigers outfit. The Tigers' season was officially put on the shelf after the last two rounds with losses to the Dogs and the Magpies, the Eagles were still well and truly on the road towards the minor premiership and came into this one on the back of a 25-point win against Central.

The scores could have been locked at four goals each at quarter-time had the Tigers not missed one of their four shots, the Eagles leading by five points at the first change after scoring four goals to Glenelg's 3.1. A case of the inaccuracy bug lobbed into the Eagles camp in the second quarter, but it didn't halt the Eagles' march too much as they extended their advantage to 22 points come half-time after scoring 5.5 to three goals. Any chance of the Tigers making a game of it in the second half would be completely snuffed out when play resumed, the Eagles breaking the game apart with an 8.2 to 3.2 third quarter to take their lead out to 52 points by the final change. The Eagles would run off to a 73-point victory after finishing the match with a 4.4 to 1.1 final quarter but would be left to count the cost of the afternoon, injuries to two key players ruling them out for the rest of the season.

Nick O'Brien was named best for the Eagles, Glenelg named Ben Sawford as their best afield.
