Sunday arvo took us to the Peter Motley Oval in Unley for the Seven television game between the Double Blues and the Bulldogs. The two matches between these clubs last season went tit-for-tat, with the hosts taking the points on both occasions, the Blues by 14 points in Round 7 then the Dogs by 11 points in Round 17. Unley has been a tough place for the Bulldogs to take points out of, their victory back in 2014 was their last and the amount of times they have won on Blues territory since they moved back into Unley could probably be counted on one or two hands!
The Dogs opened the afternoon's proceedings quite well, keeping the home side to just two behinds and scoring 4.3 for themselves. But either the Dogs had their swagger turned on, or the Blues were just sussing them out, because by half-time, the home side was back to within a couple of kicks. Despite their inaccuracy, the Blues reduced the deficit to nine points by the long break after kicking 4.5 to the Dogs' 2.1. Sturt's horrid shooting for goal would keep the Dogs well and truly in it at three quarter-time, scoring 3.7 to Centrals' 2.1 to take over the lead. At the final change, the Blues led by three points. Unfortunately for the Dogs, the intensity they showed in the opening round of the year seemed to had deserted them as they fell to a final term knockout blow, Sturt scoring 4.2 to 1.2 to run out 21-point winners.
Sturt named Zane Kirkwood as their best afield, the Bulldogs voted Travis Schiller as their best.
