Down Port Road at the Alberton Oval, the Magpies faced the Double Blues. So far these sides are the only ones to face each other a second time this season, it was only six rounds ago that the Double Blues hammered their old rivals to the tune of 63 points at Unley, after 2015 saw the two clubs share the points. Last week's loss to Glenelg was a huge shock to the system, putting them into seventh position but on equal points with sixth through ninth with all on three wins each at the time before kick off.
Sturt's stirring win against the Crows had them as favourites for the win and began on a strong note with a 7.4 to 2.2 opening term to lead by 32 points at quarter-time. The wheels on the Blues wagon started to slow up some from this point onwards, the inaccuracy bug invading the Sturt camp as they kicked 3.6 to 3.1 to extend their advantage to 37 points when it probably should have been more. The goals were very much few and far between from here, both sides only taking 1.2 each in the third quarter to leave the half-time deficit unchanged. The Magpies launched a final term comeback, but their own accuracy on goal left much to be desired and would fall short by 22 points after they kicked 3.5 to Sturt's 1.2.
The Double Blues would name Mark Evans as their best on ground, the Magpies named Billy Frampton as their standout.
