In the north western suburbs, the Maughan Thiem Hyundai Oval in Woodville saw the contest between the Eagles and the Bloods. It was back in Round 5 that these sides last met, the Anzac Day match at Adelaide Oval saw the Eagles exact some vengeance on the Bloods for their grand final defeat with their 73-point win. The Eagles have not dropped a game since Round 3 and brushed aside fellow top-five side South last week, while the Bloods managed to stave off defeat for a second week in succession after outlasting the Tigers. But against the high flying Eagles, the Bloods were about to have their luck run out.
Despite their inaccuracy on goal in the opening term the Eagles would kick 4.5 to the Bloods single goal, taking a lead of 23 points into the quarter-time huddle. The second quarter was a goal-fest, the Eagles's accuracy improvement allowed them to bag 7.1 to the Bloods' four goals without a miss as the gap stretched out to seven goals by half-time. The Eagles would top 400 disposals for the match and almost tripled the Bloods' entries into their 50-metre zone, the only good point about Westies' day was their accuracy on goal which would eventually be 80%. More punishment would follow in the third quarter, the Bloods adding a further two goals while the Eagles took 5.3 to take the deficit out to 63 points by three quarter-time. But the Eagles' final quarter seemed to earn the ire of coach Michael Godden, the home side taking their foot off the pedal and finished the afternoon by kicking 3.3 to 2.2. The Eagles ran out 76-point winners, Godden's words after the match reflected a little dissatisfaction... "We got a bit lazy to be honest."
Matt Goldsworthy was voted best afield for the Eagles, Nick Favretto was best for the Bloods.
