In the final match for the round, it was off to the outer north-west side of the Adelaide metro for the game between the Magpies and the Tigers at Alberton Oval. In the season opening weekend it was the Tigers who emerged victorious, a six-to-two goal first term set up their eventual win despite the Magpies chipping away at their lead bit-by-bit. In the end the Tigers won by 17 points. The Magpies' second spot on the ladder didn't make much difference to the Bulldogs, losing by 16 points at Elizabeth.
The Tigers hammered the Panthers to the margin of 57 points and came in seemingly full of confidence. But an upset at Alberton was always going to be a big ask, the Magpies led by two goals at the quarter-time siren after they scored 5.2 to 3.2 to begin the afternoon's proceedings. The Tigers were able to stay within range of the Magpies going into the long break, but a couple of missed opportunities stopped them from a having a mere single shot's gap or taking the lead. They scored 3.3 to 3.2 in the second quarter as the home side were up by 11 points at half-time. Poor goal-kicking was a major issue for Port in the third quarter, keeping the door very much open for the Tigers going into the final change. They scored 2.5 to 2.3, Port clinging to a 13-point lead. But some choice words from the Power leadership group that was in attendance spurred the Magpies into action, they rammed home 6.3 and kept the Tigers to two behinds to run out 50-point winners and re-claim second place.
Brendon AhChee was named best for the Magpies, Glenelg named Matt Snook as their standout.
