Match Report

Game number four of the round sends us to the western side of the city as the Bloods took on the Magpies at the City Mazda Stadium in Richmond. Their last hit-out was a disaster for the Bloods, the Magpies smashing the hell out of the Bloods in Round 9 to the margin of 128 points at Alberton.

After scoring 11 goals to two in the first half, the Magpies switched on the afterburners in the second half to kick 17 goals to five in a horror outing for Westies. Unfortunately things weren't going to be too much different this time around despite the Bloods' winning four of their last six games. Port still has eyes on the minor premiership and after the eventual defeat of the Eagles, victory would bring a Second Semi-Final within reach. Inaccuracy by the Bloods, as well as a couple of rushed behinds stopped them from being just a kick away from the 'Pies at quarter-time, instead they were down by 23 points after scoring 1.4 to 5.3. There were similar issues for Port during the second term, but they still stretched the lead to 41 points by the long break after scoring 5.6 to Westies' three goals. The Bloods attempt to reel back the Magpies' lead meaningfully in the third term was brought unstuck by more missed opportunities. They scored 3.3 to the Magpies' 2.5, the gap brought back to 37 points by three quarter-time. Just as the Crows did against North in saving it all for last, the Magpies did to the Bloods and blitzed them in the final term, kicking 10.3 to 1.2 to take a 92-point win.

Nathan Krakouer was named best for the Magpies, the Bloods named Izak Rankine as their best.
