Bert Taylor's big claim to fame was that, for a three-year period, he was, at 198 cm, the tallest footballer in the VFL. He made his league debut with Melbourne in 1934 but, after some promising early displays, his form fell away, and he only rarely succeeded in reaping the full benefits of the size advantage he possessed. Between 1934 and 1936 he played a total of 39 senior games and kicked 23 goals.
