Classy centreman Bob Miller was a useful performer for Fitzroy in 44 VFL games between 1946 and 1950, during which he kicked three goals. However, it was after moving to Tasmania and taking up the captain-coaching reins at NTFA side City that he truly came into his own. As playing coach from 1951 to 1955 he made 74 senior appearances and led his team to five straight grand finals for three premierships. Then, after retiring as a player, he oversaw another three grand final appearances for two flags in two stints (1956-7, and 1970-1-2). He also guided the club to two state titles.
Not surprisingly, Miller was named as coach of the City-South/City ‘Team of the Century’. He is also a member of AFL Tasmania’s Hall of Fame.
