After progressing via the thirds and seconds Brian Muir made his senior league debut for St Kilda in round four 1956, before going on to play every remaining match for the year. A high leaping, strong marking ruckman, he was not always a first choice senior player over the course of his four season, 42 VFL game, 15 goal career but he could usually be relied on to perform serviceably when selected. This was in spite of a kicking style which would have to be described as laughably awkward. After retiring as a player Muir continued to serve his beloved Saints in a wide variety of roles including committeeman, coach of the thirds, selector and past players group president.
