Bruce Tempany was a solidly framed (189cm, 85kg) utility whose play was infused with intelligence, creativity and vim. He was also an excellent kick. He joined Richmond from Essex Heights juniors, and then worked his way up through the ranks from the under 19s, eventually making his senior VFL debut in 1977. He went on to play 87 games for the Tigers and score 33 goals over seven seasons, totals which might have been considerably higher had he not succumbed so frequently to injury. He also played once for Victoria. After leaving the VFL scene behind he captain-coached Doncaster for a time and later played for Mitcham.
