Having progressed through the grades at Fitzroy Colin Hobbs made his senior VFL debut in 1966. A resourceful and effective winger with a pronounced mean streak, he played 64 games and scored six goals for the Lions over the course of half a dozen seasons. After leaving Fitzroy he joined VFA first division side Coburg for whom he played 98 games in six seasons, and was skipper in 1974-5. The Lions were relegated during his time with them, and won the 1974 second division premiership under his captaincy. He is a member of Coburg’s official ‘Team of the Century’. Hobbs finished his playing career in the VFA’s lower tier with Northcote, where he made 13 appearances and scored 10 goals in 1977-8.
