At his best Craig Turley was, for a relatively brief time, one of the foremost midfielders in the game. This was emphatically the case in 1991 when he was both a West Coast Eagles best and fairest winner and runner-up to Jim Stynes in the Brownlow. He played 115 V/AFL games and kicked 91 goals for the Eagles between 1989 and 1995, and counted membership of the club’s 1992 premiership-winning team among his career highlights.
Injuries impeded Turley during his last couple of seasons and a transfer to Melbourne in 1996 in a bid to recapture form and fitness did not really succeed. He played 16 games and booted 8 goals for the Demons.
The sort of player who can run all day and boasting excellent ball handling skills, Turley also played 91 WAFL games and kicked 51 goals for West Perth between 1985 and 1990, from 1992 to 1995 and in 2001. He was included on a half forward flank in the West Coast Eagles ‘Team of the Decade 1991-2000’.
