Originally from Ivanhoe Amateurs, David Twomey was a resilient, hard-running player best suited to a half back flank, which was where he played most of his 63 VFL games for Collingwood between 1979 and 1985. He was one of the Magpies' best in the 20-point Grand Final loss to Carlton in 1981. The 1986 season saw him at West Adelaide where he sometimes played a more attacking role than at Collingwood, registering 85 SANFL games and 95 goals over the course of a four year stint. He was the Bloods' top goal kicker in his second season at the club, kicking 56 goals. David Twomey was the nephew of former Collingwood players Bill, Mick and Pat.
