Greg Harding debuted with Claremont in 1995 and was picked up by Fremantle in that year’s National Draft. From the time of his Dockers debut in round four 1996 it was clear that here was a footballer of considerable assurance, calmness and poise. Had it not been for the frequency with which he succumbed to injury - he underwent no fewer than a dozen operations over the course of his six season AFL career - he might conceivably have developed into an out and out champion. Playing mainly off half back, he was a key contributor to Freo’s trademark ‘chip and draw’ style of play.

Between 1996 and 2000 Harding played 69 games and booted three goals for Fremantle. He crossed to West Coast in 2001 but continued to be beset by injuries a nd managed just nine games for the year before being de-listed. He continued to play for Claremont for another three seasons and had played 74 WAFL games and kicked one goal for the club by the time he retired.
