Pacy and with excellent disposal skills, Greg Lambert was an important player for South Melbourne in 166 VFL games between 1966 and 1979. Initially used mainly as a wingman he later made the transition to a back pocket before returning to the wing later in his career. When the interchange rule was introduced in 1978 Lambert was often used as an effective 'shock trooper' from the bench.
After leaving South Melbourne Lambert played for Dandenong in the VFA for a time and in 1983 he captain-coached Mount Eliza to the first senior grade premiership in the club's history.
