Harry Herbert was a flamboyantly talented ruckman who was eminently capable of the spectacular. He could also kick the ball prodigious distances. Boasting a classical physique, he was sometimes called upon either to shore up the defence at centre half back, or bolster the team’s attacking options at centre half forward. He joined Geelong from Merrivale, and played 56 VFL games between 1952 and 1957, kicking 27 goals.
