After commencing his senior playing career with North Melbourne in the VFA Jack Geggie joined Essendon in 1902 and was a member the same year of the Dons’ losing VFL grand final team against Collingwood. A determined and highly regarded full back, he was chosen to represent Victoria in 1903 and 1904. His three season stint with Essendon saw him play 43 games and kick 11 goals. In 1906-7 he was captain-coach of ambitious VFA side Richmond. He later resumed in the VFL, this time with Melbourne, but made just a single appearance in 1911 before departing to take up the captain-coaching reigns at Oakleigh, which as of 1912 was a member of the Melbourne Districts Football Association.
