John Hutton was a talented full forward who commenced his senior football career in the WAFL with Claremont in 1985. Over subsequent years he gradually improved, before arguably reaching his peak in a 1991 season which saw him top the competition goal kicking list with 100 goals, and contribute five majors to the Tigers’ 19.18 to 8.7 grand final trouncing of Subiaco. The upshot of this fine campaign was that Hutton was selected in the ‘91 National Draft by Brisbane where he performed solidly in 1992, kicking 43 goals to top the Bears’ list. Somewhat surprisingly, however, he was de-listed, and subsequent stints at Sydney (five games, nine goals in 1993) and Fremantle (13 games, 27 goals in 1995) were largely unimpressive. The 1995 season also saw him finishing his career with Claremont, for whom he ended up playing 69 senior games and kicking 156 goals.
